He didn't. He elected to tell the fellow what he *personally* was
paid. Anyway, one of the first questions anyone asks when enquiring
about a job is "what's the wage like?" and they're generally told that
it's "about $xx per hour", "$xxx per week" or "around $xx,xxx per
year."

Take a look in the employment advertisements one day in the paper -
you'll find that the approximate wages for a wide variety of jobs are
publicised there.

However, Rod, if I were to find out without your permission what you
are personally paid per hour/week/year/decade, and into which bank
account that money was paid, then told sundry and all that
information, then you might be able to take legal action against me.

But, somehow, I doubt it. Look at last week's news, and the set-up
between Packer and Acxiom which will make available personal
residential and financial details on about 15 million Australians
without their knowledge or consent. There's no law against that.
