Other way round - the freight ran up the back of the V set - and that time
the trains were on the down, ie proceeding up-hill. I believe the V-set had
broken down. The last car of the interurban was badly damaged, I think
there was speculation at the time that it was intentionally pushed over into
the gorge to clear the tracks quickly. I don't think the National Parks and
Wildlife Service were happy, but the military came to the aid of the party
and lifted it out of the gorge.
