Channel 9 Exclusive Access Rights to Glenbrook Rail Tragedy Site???

Fri 3/12/99 Ch.9 Today program had Steve Leibmann (sp?) broadcasting
live from the site of yesterday's rail tragedy nr Glenbrok in the Blue
Mountains, NSW

Later in the morning, I was listening to ABC Sydney radio (2BL 702)
and John Morrison, the roving outside reporter was "commenting" that
other media had only been just let back near the site because of a
live TV broadcast during the morning.

He commented that no other media had been allowed near the site, and
the even crane drivers - who had arrived about 8.15am - were asked
whether they had had breakfast, anyting to eat, anything to drink,
etc, i.e.whether there was anything they could do for a little while,
the strong inference being that even repair crews were not allowed on
site while the broadcast was in progress. The crane drivers were
admiited to the site about 9.05, 5 minutes after the scheduled time
for the Today program to end.

Personnel were kept away from the site by State Rail security.

If the implications of this are true. State Rail have a lot to answer
for - why was one particular media outlet given apparently exclusive
rights to an incident of certainly regional importance, if not
national interest???
