Nothing stopping them really if they are accredited. But most of the Whyalla
locos (DEs) would need re-gauging as they currently run on 3'6" to the
mines, they had DHs on standard gauge but they are all gone and would be too
small anyway. The Newcastle locos are standard gauge and 3' gauge but I
think they would be too small for main line use. Port Kembla locos are all
standard gauge and if BHP Coal decides to move the Elouera coal by road
instead of rail there may be a few big locos spare.
