RD August 1999

A short note from the Railway Digest Editor.

A V/Line Passenger A class loco appears on the cover of this
month's Railway Digest which is a pointer to one of the main
stories, the National Express Group's purchase of three major
Victorian public transport bodies.

Also like the 90 class feature article in May issue, this month
Peter Clark presents the technical story of the NR class locos.

Other articles include an update on the radio system used in
NSW, chasing the Northern Rivers Railroad ballast workings
(Through the Lens) while this month's Snapshot focuses on
Werris Creek and Gunnedah/Tamworth including the last
workings to Preston Colliery at Curlewis (NSW).

Some highlights of the photo coverage include an 80/422
tuscan duo on the Canberra oil train, an indigenous NR on
the Ghan in the Blue Mountains, West Coast Railway R711
storming out of South Geelong and the Silverton Rail loco
transfer to Parkes.

Subscription copies should be posted later this week and
newsagent/hobby shop distribution will be available by
early next week. The editorial team and publisher thank
all RD readers and contributors for their on-going support.
