Nothing to do with being clever,total economic necessity.
Why on earth would any private Railway company maintain long lines that they 
dont need.
Having destinations served by multiple lines is a total extravagence.
If lines are needed for passenger purposes,then surely its the passenger 
providers responsibility, either directly or via Govt subsidy to pay for the 
maintenance.
FV are going to have a hard enuf task as it is ,paying the interest on their 
loans , without even thinking of maintaining or upgrading existing lines.
What I have heard about running freights via Maryborough & Inglewood makes 
total sense.
