If you went to the dogs, you went to White City.  It was a platform
for greyhound coursing events, although, as one respondent noted, it
was also used in the peak for workers at a local factory.  Amazingly
enough (but still before your time), at least one train per day
originated or terminated there.  A thread on the topic of White City,
dating from 1997/98 can be found in the newsgroup archives.
