Bad news for Transrapid in Germany

According to new calculations by Deutsche Bahn (German Rail, DB), a
Transrapid line Hamburg to Berlin would cost 16-34% more than estimated. The
german federal railway authority (Eisenbahnbundesamt) even estimates 46%
more.

Simultaneously, the DB analysis forecasts 28% less passengers.

Costs up, revenue down.

That should make the shaky calculation tumble down.

The only way to keep the costs constant would be building parts of the line
single tracked so only two maglev trains per hour can go.

But that way, passenger figures should go down even further.

Besides, the highest german court (constitutional court,
Bundesverfassungsgericht) is asking critical questions about the Transrapid
calculation, its passenger frequency forecasts and its legal basis (maglev
requirement act, Magnetschwebebahnbedarfsgesetz).
