nothing really surprises me in this country...or indeed in this city...

I have here a recent clipping from the Press saying Christchurch motorists
have the worst record in NZ for running red lights and crashing at
intersections...

Last year a police campaign resulted in more than 500 offence notices being
issued, *just for inner-city intersections* (a building I used to work in was
on the corner of Madras and Armagh streets, there were a number of collisions
at that intersection in the two or three years I worked there)

...police reckoned some motorists were driving at 80 km/h when they drove
through red lights...
