Re: Air Raid Precautions

Just to be precise about this... When St James was built there was provision
for 4 tracks. The tunnels leading north were for the City Inner, Down
Western Suburbs, Up Western Suburbs and City Outer. During WW2, the Western
Suburbs line tunnels were in use as the terminating roads. The City Outer
had track laid as a storage road. The City Inner was used for military
purposes. The entrance was opposite the Mitchell Library, and is still
there, although now it is used as an emergency exit from the Cahill
Expressway.

The military use was by Army signallers & searchlight personnel and RAAF
anti-aircraft headquarters.
