Rail Heritage weekend





The magic of steam comes to Goulburn next weekend, with the opportunity for
the whole family to ride in a steam train out to Lake Bathurst for a day
out, or 45 minute stop over.
The steam weekend is being organised by the Goulburn Rail Heritage Centre in
conjunction with the Lachlan Valley Railway Society.
The steam train service to Lake Bathurst /Tarago will leave the Goulburn
Roundhouse at 11am and 3.45pm and will depart from Lake Bathurst/Tarago at
12.15pm and 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, returning to the roundhouse at
1.15pm and 5pm.
Drawing the steam era carriages will be 5367, a steam locomotive built by
Clyde Engineering in 1914.
At the roundhouse, families can view  the heritage machine shop and
including the locomotive wheel turning lathe and other machinery.
Vintage diesel locomotives 7321, 4821 and 42101 will be on display along
with an assortment of historic wooden and steel goods wagons and passenger
carriages.
Static steam locomotive B390 built in Scotland in 1891 will be on show as
will the JH Watson seven ton capacity vertical boilered self-propelled steam
crane that was used to lay the original rails on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Entry to the roundhouse is $5 for Adults and $2 for children and pensioners,
the  return trip to Lake Batherst/ Tarago is $15 for adults and $8 for
children and pensioners.
On Saturday evening the rail enthusiasts are offering a special night out
for $32 per person.
The cost includes a return train trip to Moss Vale in the steam era
carriages hauled by a diesel locomotive, a two course dinner at the Moss
Vale Services Club.
A single way ticket including the dinner is $20. The train will depart from
the Goulburn Roundhouse at 6pm  and arrive at Moss Vale at 7.10pm. It will
leave Moss Vale for the return journey at 11pm arriving back at Goulburn at
12.05am.

Why not organise with a group of friends to get together for a fun night
out, maybe take a pack of cards and enjoy a game of euchre like travellers
used to do on the train trip to Goulburn.
