Train Driving.

I got hold of a video from the railfan shop the other day entitled
Train Driving.
This is a very good video which primarily shows the inside of the
Vline Driver Training Complex at Dynon.
A good insight into the G class driving simulator is shown and then
viewers are taken for a couple of decent cab rides .
The first one is from Tottenham Yard to Bendigo in a G class and the
second is from Caulfield to Flinders St in an emu / spark .
There are scenes of the operation of one of the large drive on / drive
off trucks with rail wheels .
One aspect which worried me a bit is that in the video and I presume
in real life , the freight from Tottenham yard to Bendigo , which
ultimately was destined for Echuca was one man operation , ie driver
only.
I would have thought that Melb to Echuca was a bit long for a single
driver train.
Are there any guidelines for how long single driver shifts can be or
what sorts of trains can be driven.
Seems like one form of economic rationalism we can well do without.
The video goes for 80 mins and is well worth it.

cheers
