Re: Boronia Rail Crossing

: This Sunday (25th October) the Boronia Rail crossing project will be open
: to the public from 11am - 3pm

I went to Boronia today and had a look, it is coming along nicely now, they
have most track down, and overhead up.

Next weekend the last train (Friday Night) will use the level crossing and
then for the next four days the railway will be closed between Bayswater and
Ferntree Gully. (Cup Day on the Tuesday)
Durning those 4 days they will connect the new station by removing about 12000
cubic metres of dirt laying 150m track, ripping up about 300m track installing
overhead, testing signals, installing Metcard machines, validators etc.

Then the first train on Wednesday Morning will use the new station.

After then they will spend the next 3-4 months removing the old station,
roadworks to fix the stuffed Dorset/Boronia road intersection (which has the
railway through the middle), building a 'modal interchange' and car park.

All to be finished by Feburary 1999, costing $28 million.
