[article about Parramatta - Chatswood railway]

This is the second time that this project has been announced by the
government in recent months, and the Parramatta - Hoxton Park transitway was
also given two official announcements. Interestingly, Transport Minister Carl
Scully is quoted as saying that he'll consider alternatives to standard heavy
rail (including busways, light rail and high speed rail) in a corridor that
is so obviously suited to full integration with the CityRail network; at the
same time he is refusing to consider either heavy or light rail for the
Parramatta - Hoxton Park link where either of the two modes (esp. light rail)
would provide a better facility than the busways.

With these double announcements going on, as well as a twelve year ferry
building scheme, it presents an air of desperation. I suspect he is trying to
distract the public from the fact that the already delayed Integrated
Transport Strategy due for release this month has been again delayed, and is
now expected for release sometime in the next six weeks. It better be good.
