Sorry Joe, I think you had to be there! but all seasoned VicRail Travellers of
20 years ago would remember our old wooden Tait Suburban Trains, they trundled
all over Melbourne, and their pinion gear?traction motor whine was all
pervasive and over the years were just part of commuting the Melbourne Rails.
It probably wasnt too bad a noise, although time blurs the memory.
The Red Rattlers were part of my working life for three years, and about the
end of my time at the SPARKS, I noticed the Comenge's were starting to sound a
little like the Red Rattlers. I think their traction motors were also a GE
derivitave.
We see a lot of NR's up here at Wodonga, Engine s are very Quiet! but you ofton
here that characteristic whine from the traction motors.
