Well actually 4 hours assuming no baggage claim time. Don't forget you have
to add the time taken to get to and from the railway stations at either end
which are generally located in congested city areas. It's OK if you are
leaving from the city and returning to the city but how often is that the
case any way?

Besides, who would swap a 2.5 hour trip for a 5 hour one? It might suit the
Germans but it doesn't cut much ice here.

Any way, I agree. This is all pie in the sky. A modest upgrade would allow
much more efficient freight services and that's what it's all about anyway.
