Paul,
I think SAR stopped using date nails in about 1972 or 73.
I'm not sure about CR, although sleepers we're replacing now have been
"dated" by bore holes in one end of the sleeper, rather than date nails.
Once I learn a bit more about this, I'll pass on details if anyone is
interested.
