Re: XPT radios

No they are just the Freight Corp Radios with the satellite capability being
installed. 2007 and 2008 have them working. Pity it was about 5 years ago
when we did a school on them. There was to be a trial working of the system
a few weeks ago on the North West Board at Broadmeadow control, but that was
delayed by problems with the Train Controllers. So as yet the Radios are
still only functioning in terrestrial mode as the System has not yet be
turned on.

The System also incorporates GPS, which is monitored from the CountryLink
help desk. The idea is that at unattended stations an announcement can be
made from a central location, when the train is approaching a station. It
has not yet been trialed but will be shortly. Eventually these announcements
will be fully automated and will be triggered when the train reaches a
specified location.
