I'd say they will stay as long as the government wants them - Stagecoach
may well "buy" Hillside trains, but they have to fit into the rest of the 
system.

I still think privatising Public Transport is ridiculous. It is impossible
to create true competition, hence the whole system would be better off being
run the government.
