I've had no problems with years of keeping my credit and debit cards
together in my wallet.  Is it something to do with the quality of the
Metcard tickets?

Anyone care to predict if the "ecash" card will do away with the need for
all the other cards, and even with the need for separate rail tickets (just
code the details for any ticket purchased on the card itself)?
