Wallaroo Line Traffic

The sulphuric acid traffic on the Wallaroo line was for the Adelaide
Fertiliser works at Wallaroo. Rock phosphate was unloaded from ships
into hoppers which were shunted up to the plant. Acid was then dumped
on the rock phosphate to make superphosphate. Apart from grain and the
acid train from Pt Pirie, one major traffic on the Wallaroo line was OB
wagons with distinctive blue tarpaulins which hauled the fertiliser out.

I understand part of the reason for possible re-opening of the Wallaroo
line might be to do with silting problems at Pt Pirie which may
necessitate larger vessels using the port at Wallaroo. Given how far
sighted AN was (LOL!) I'd be pleasantly surprised if the old dual gauge
line is still there !

Cheers

Ben
