Re Kadina/ Wallaroo and 80 class

HI there,

Lachlan Smith wrote..
"I recently heard a strong rumour that ASR intends to reopen the branch
line
between Snowtown and Kadina/Wallaroo/Moonta. For those who didn't know,
there is a deep water grain shipping port at Wallaroo, so I assume that
ASR, if the rumour is true, would want to use this line for taking grain to
this port. If it is true, I wonder if they intend to convert it to SG. Can
anyone confirm this rumour, or have any more info?"

Although I have not seen this line for quite some time, my impression is
that it was dual gauged in the conversion of 1980/81 so the infrastructure
should be intact unless it was ripped up. It was fairly intact 4 years ago!

As for 80 class, I have seen pictures of these working to Whyalla and saw
triple 80's parked at the old Mile End Diesel Depot... of real interest as
I worked there for some time in the 70's. They seem to have been a
relatively short term use for any of this traffic.. HTH

Cheers
