There is a way around this... after getting a small crease in my
monthly ticket, the validators rejected it. I then applied
(successfully!) for a refund, and looked for a better way. Apparently,
you can still buy the "old style" tickets, but only at a limited number
of outlets (Met Shops, and some other Met ticket outlets). I bought an
old-style monthly (from the Met Shop in the city, _and_ laminated free
of charge), and thus no longer have to worry about validating Metcards -
at least for the time being.
