48 Class



Why hasn't Freightcorp replaced the 48 Class which was first introduced in 1959?  If Freightcorp was to replace the 48 Class what would be the maximum allowable axle load?  The 48 Class has 12 - 13 tonne axle load but presumablely its replacement could have a higher axle load.  What configuration of locomotive would they seek (ie single ended, double ended, hood, carbody etc)?  What would be the power achievable for this configuration and axle load?  Any takers!
