I understand that 3801 had problems at Lawson (blowing piston?).   It
was able to continue (without pushing any XPTs, but required a stop at
Mount Victoria for additional water.   The 81 was attached for the
return trip at Lithgow, so as to overcome any worsing of the
situation.
