The trains were worked under "Working of Traffic of a Double line over a
Single line during repairs or obstruction using a Pilotman".
The Pilotmans section extended from the Up end of Royal Park platform in
a Down direction, to the Down end of the Coburg Up platform.
All Down trains on the Up line obeyed all Down signals, including the
Disc signal at Coburg "Up line to No.1".
The Pilotman authorised Up trains to pass the Up home signal at the
Bell St level crossing, the Up Home signal at the Up end of the Coburg
Up platform, and the Up Starting Signal at the ???? Rd level crossing.
The authority for the first was after the Pilotman had spoken to the
Signaller at Coburg via the post phone, the second was after the
Pilotman received a green hand signal from the signaller at Coburg, and
the third was after the Pilotman received a green hand signal from the
gatekeeper at the ??? Rd gatehouse.
Only two 3-car Hitachi sets were in use on the line, crossing somewhere
between Coburg and Merlynston. There was a 6-minute turnaround time at
Royal Park, and a 12-minute turnaround time at Upfield.
Normally three 3-car Hitachi sets are in use, These normally cross
between Brunswick and Anstey, and at Merlynston.
