It would save the costs of the crew needed now for every second train 
from Flinders Street to Ringwood.  A second crew would only be needed 
from Ringwood to the end of the line and back for the second half of the 
train which split.

30 minutes would be a rather long headway though for the city-Ringwood 
sector.
