Canberra transport paper proposes shift to transit, walking, cycling

Though there's not a lot of rail-specific content in it, aus.rail readers
also interested in urban public transport may be interested in a paper
produced by the Sustainable Transport Working Group of the Conservation
Council of the South East Region and Canberra (How's that for a
mouthful!).

Called "Canberra at the Crossroads - A way out of the transport mess",
the paper suggests a greater emphasis on public transport, walking and
cycling.

The paper, though written for Canberra, is relevant to most other
Australian cities. It is available on-line via the following URL:

A handy Executive Summary is provided to sum up the points made. Also on
the home page are details of the STWG's activities and links to other
sustainable transport sites around the world.

Regards,

Peter Parker
