Puffing Billy Signalling at Menzies Creek

Greetings,

Although I am a member of PBPS I don't (currently) work as a
volunteer, and obviously don't pay too much attention to the "Narrow
Gauge" magazine.

I was at Menzies Creek today to photograph D21 and DH59 strutting
their stuff on this Total Fire Ban day.

Menzies Creek station is being prepared for a fairly major
resignalling project, but I can't find too many details anywhere.
There is a frame installed in the signal bay, although not connected
yet, and four (count them...) large electric staff instruments lined
up on the opposite side.

So, it would appear as though MCk will be interlocked, although one
recent issue of NG mentioned something about "trailable" points. I
cannot recall seeing anything written about electric staff, and in any
case, why four?

Another interesting feature is the new (to me) splitting distant
erected facing down trains on the approach to the station. The only
examples in Victoria (to my knowledge) of two distant signal arms on a
bracket are for trains approaching a junction, from the trailing side,
where each signal arm applies to a different track; Echuca, Ararat
come to mind. Were there any applications in Victoria of a genuine
splitting distant signal?

Can somebody post some information?

Cheers...JD
