I think 4 tracks between Newcastle and Maitland is more like it. More than 4
tracks would only be possible in Vic as I don't think there are any level
crossings between Central and Strathfield (Homebush?) where the 6 tracks end
in Sydney and I don't know of any places in other states having more than 4
running tracks. Of course, the potential for more than 4 must arise where
there is a level crossing within yard limits. I'm not sure if this is the
case at Bowen Hills in Brisbane but the old Mackay station was split in the
middle by a major level crossing which crossed a number of tracks and Dubbo
yard was crossed very inconveniently by a level crossing in the days when I
worked there.
