I just can't believe the problems experienced in Melbourne with the
ticketing system. Firstly with the delays to the project, and then when
it's put into place it doesn't seem to work properly.

Unless I'm missing something, multimodal ticketing seems to be fairly
established technology and there's nothing exceptional about it at all.

All tickets in Perth have been multimodal for as long as I can remember.
In the early 1990s they put in a new ticketing system based on
magnetic-striped cards on the buses and trains. The system seems to work
fine.

So I'm puzzled why ticketing in Melbourne has been such a big deal.
