Re: What's the difference between a steam and diesel loco?

You're all wrong. In line with the RTM's decision to use oil as a fuel in
3526 because its easier, they have taken this thinking one step further -
yes, just like in fair grounds across the country, 3801 will in future be
powered by diesel - the boiler is stripped away and there's a spare
Goodwin-Alco diesel under the bonnet. Don't you steam buffs worry none
though because digital sound has been fitted, along with synthetic smoke so
you can relive 3801's glory days - the difference now is that the volume can
be turned down so people can hear themselves speak, and so the neighbours
won't complain. The smoke is a special environmentally friendly mixture
which kills bugs and makes flowers grow (Australian Natives only of course).

The only unfortunate side effect of all there changes is that 3801 will now
have to be painted blue in line with SRA policy for diesels. That's a small
price to pay for the convenience of diesel power.
