Modifications were very easy and very cheap. As was pointed out in a
previous posting, the Mark 3's were built for the British structure gauge
(RA8 if memory serves me correctly) - the European structure gauge is far
more generous, and the cars well and truely fitted, even when at maximum
tilt.
