This would make a lot of sense if transfers were possible, even better
with through cars.

This is actually emulating Qantas. Planes from Melbourne, Sydney and
Brisbane all arrive in Bangkok within 30 mins of each other, and go on to
London, Rome and Frankfurt around 90 mins later.
