EM01 new nose cone.

Unit EM01 emerged from Redbank Workshops after its supposed intense cosmetic
surgery. So, does the drivers cab resemble that of an SMU as rumours would
have us believe? The answer is no. The shape is exactly the same as any
other EMU with flat windshields. The only external difference is the dot
matrix destination board found on SMU's and IMU's. The mysteries of the
cab's interior are yet to be revealed but the rumours say it has an SMU
style dash.

Let's have a look at some history. Rumours were flying thick and fast about
the 2300 class loco's before the first one emerged from Redbank shops. The
most elaborate was about how the entire cab was being redesigned inside and
out to resemble that of a 2800. Disappointment reigned as 2301 emerged to
show the same cab it always had. So the next rumour was that the exterior
was the same but the interior boasted a 2800 style desktop drivers console.
On close personal inspection, I found this, too, to be untrue.

The moral of the story? EM01 will undoubtedly be nothing more than a coat of
paint and a new radio system.
