Re: Trip from Newcastle to Sydney

I just completed a trip by Interurban from Newcastle to Berowra and have
a
few questions that some people may be able to answer:

    - Do trains still service the famous (from Garratt Days!) Newstan
Colliery
    at Fassifern?
Coal trains still serve Newstan colliery to the loaders in Newcastle and
are usually banked in the rear up Fassifern bank.
    - Did the current road bridge east of the railway at Dora Creek used to
be
    the railway bridge?
Yes. Current rail bridge opened in 1957.
-Did the old bridge remnants west of the current railway bridge over
Cockle
Creek used to be the main line or some colliery branch?
The old bridge over Cockle Creek was the original main line until the
current bridge was opened in 1957. The old bridge was then used for the
colliery branches behind Cockle Creek in the West Wallsend - Killingworth
area.
    - When was the last time the branch heading to the east from Awaba (to
Wangi
    Power Station?) was used?
    - Is the branch line running to the east just north of Wyee still used
and
    if so what for?
The branch just North of Wyee serves the Vales Point Power Station unloader
but has not been used for a few years now. I think it went into decline when
the Eraring Power Station came on line. This Power Station has its own
unloader loop.

    In anticipation - Many thanks!
