The line was originally built through to Port Albert in 1892, with a branch
line to Won Wron via Yarram opening in 1921, and extended to Woodside in
1923.
Other branches were to Barry's Beach and a 2'6" horse drawn tramway from
Welshpool to Port Welshpool, all operated by Victorian Railways. Another
horse drawn tram also ran from Bennison to Port Franklin.
