If the amount of money (lost revenue) that the removal of conductors and
the installation of those frigging tickets machines has really cost was
ever fully documented Jeff Kennett would be taken out and hung from the
nearest tree by all the ratepayers who must now subsidise these
operations even more than they had been.       Gareth's comments about
the last tram out of the city at night and the lack of fare paying
passengers on it certainly cannot be limited to that trip.  Just sit and
watch; maybe 1 out of each 100 people who board a tram during the day go
to that machine (if they can even get to it thru the crowds) and buy a
ticket.  I know that all of the other 99 passengers do not have some
kind of pre-paid ticket!
