T-G Hybrids

It seems that over weekend many 8 car consist G sets have been split and
attached to T sets. Today I've spotted at least four 8 car hybrid T-G sets
roaming around sector 3 (namely Hornsby via Strathfield)
What the hell are they doing this for? Even the interurban (GOS-HBY via Shore
then Epping) service has had this hybrid set for at least 3 working days- (T86
attached to G24)
