Lunchtime ABC news said it was an RSA truck which was hit. The item also
said that "four train drivers" were taken to the John Hunter Hospital to
be treated for shock and for counselling. 

By "four drivers", does this means there were either trainees or
inspectors in the loco, or did the crew of another train witness the
accident? 

The safety protocols of RSA need to be examined. First a car at Circular
Quay, and now a truck.
