yes, it is just as bad, if not worse, although a hell of a lot upgrading is
going on here - laying new rails, concreate sleepers etc. I live along the
Richmond line (NSW) , and some parts of it have barly been touched since the
steem trains e.g claraden - east richmond has a 115km/h limit on it, but
i've never been on a train that ever dared to go that fast, and on the
corner just before maryong i was on a tangara that almost derailed. on a
certian section of track near stanwell park, on an old sandstone viaduct,
there is a limit of 20km/h and that isn't even a caution - it's a normal
limit!!!! the tracks there are dredfull! and on a newly laied part near
seven hills on the up main, there is a dip or something i was ona v set the
other day, and it slowed to a near stop, then lurched viloently to the left,
and then started up to full speed again. I also rember seeing the date on
the rails at piction station - 1949!!!!! almost 50 years old!!! if there
wern't so many stupid restrictions like this, the xpt could proably average
at least another 40-50km/h faster!!!

Hopefully some heads will start turning soon, and something will be done
about it!!!
