Endeavour/Xplorer railcar problems

It was reported in this Newsgroup that the evening Canberra to Sydney
Xplorer service derailed in the vicinity of Stanmore. (The message was
dated Tuesday although I read the message on Monday, so the incident
apparently happened Sunday night).

I believe that there was a defect in a wheel and/or axle in the
intermediate car which caused the derailment.

As a result, a 100km/h speed limit has been placed on the operation of the
Xplorer and the similar Endeavour railcars. The normal service maximum for
these cars is 140km/h. So if you travel Countrylink, be prepared for a
slightly late arrival, and don't try to use your 00 or 01 expiry date
credit card in the on-board payphone to notify everyone of your late
arrival, it won't work!
