Yuri,
your posting "allows no argument" I agree with those who say this thread
has gone too far!
But thanks for reminding me of the Pilots Strike. I had Family
involved, and was better informed than most, at that time. I tried with
little success, to persuade my mates at Sth Dynon to actively support our
colleagues at Ansett and TAA.
How short sighted we were! Even though we were all paid up members of the
AFULE, it was said (mutterred) that they were not real workers (sic).
They were so highly paid, they couldn't be workers, could they? And anyway
it was Bob Hawke who was destroying this Union (see...they called themselves
an Association!..too uppitty to be a Union!)
I had little success, and watched the Airlines operate around the Country
using second-rate U.S. Pilots, wondering when the first Crash would come
along. Our own Pilots went Overseas and made a lot more money Flying in the
Middle-East, and a lot of them never returned to work in Australia.
Two weeks ago I went to the Agent to purchase a couple of tickets to
the Gold Coast to visit my aging Parents, I could not afford to go!
You see, I have just paid my Rates (you know, the ones that were going to
be reduced after all the Councils were amalgamated?) The week before
I paid the rego on my car (the one that was free s few years ago). And in
front of me I have the water Rates to pay (that didn't exist a year ago)
Yes! I am sure that all this talk of reform is going to be good for me,
else why would good old Jeff and little Johnnie have told me so?
Congratulations Jeff, I am sure that the 80,000 unemployed will be happy
about your AAA rating, I hear that the Government and the Multi-nationals
will now all be able to get much lower interest rates, and possibly we will
all get to share the savings, in similar way to those we will share from the
Amalgamation of Councils, sale of State Bank, closing of 20% of our Schools,
Sale of Telecom, sale of Gas and Fuel, Sale of the Electrical Authorities,
loss of Steel production in Newcastle, reduced Tariffs, etc, etc .
I am waiting!
