Re: Scanning slides

I am using a Hewlett Packard PhotoSmart scanner, which can scan up to
7"x5" photos at 300dpi, and negs and slides at up to 2400dpi optical
resolution.
As for the "slide adaptors" for flatbed scanners, one I saw recently was
simply two mirrors at 90 degrees to each other, and both a 45 degrees to
the bed, thereby using the scanner's own light source and sending it
back through the slide/negative to the sensor head, all mounted in a
plastic "box" to redue the amount of stray light getting in.
Basic principle (set to fixed width font)
/\
/ \ Mirrors
/ \
__---________ Scanner bed
^slide/neg

Primitive, but it semed to work fairly well, and could most likely be
constructed by almost anyone in a matter of minutes. A couple of vanity
mirrors obtained from a car wreckers might be a good start.
I have not tried it, but the theory sounds good, so if anyone has more
time than me to play around with it, I would be interested to hear who
well (if at all) it works.
Cheers,

Peter.
