Isn't Dimbulah - Mt Surprise officially closed?

These lines see very little traffic. Mt Surprise - Forsayth and Norman -
Croydon have a weekly railmotor as their only traffic. Apart from Cairns -
Kuranda, the others only see goods trains only as required. The
safeworking on these lines can be done by the driver or guard without any
need for remote authority. Kuranda is the only line with regular following
movements and train arrival messages are easily handled by telephone.
There is no need for expensive communications and signalling which would
have to replace them. It's a very cheap way to keep a line open.

Obviously QR didn't learn anything from V/Line. You can't have cheap bits
of metal or paper as your authority to enter a section. You need expensive
computers and radios to do exactly the same job.

Yes.

Most are now Section Authority or Train Order working.

There is plenty of electric staff and train staff & ticket working still
around. I think there is still one section of double line block on the
southern line.
