Australian Railcars/Electrics

To any railcar drivers or other people in the know,

I was wondering about the general operation of driving a set of railcars
(electric or diesel). Basically, how is it done? I have seen inside the
drivers cabs of Adelaide 2000 and 3000 class EMUs and seen the little lever
that is adjusted back and forward for acceleration. This seems to be the
main control. Does this also operate the brakes? What about when
stopping...does the driver have to push a button to open and then close the
doors? What other levers and buttons are of key importance to railcar
drivers? I realise that different models will be different, but I'm just
after a general brief on how to drive a railcar...out of interest, not
because I'm planning to! : )
