Just a word of warning to people thinking about posting binaries in this
newsgroup (nothing against Robert and Fiona - they were just making a
comment, and nothing against Gabi either, unless she's going to post more
binaries in the future).
While it's not forbidden, it's convention that you shouldn't post any binary
image files in group like 'aus.rail', or any other 'aus.*' newsgroup unless
the group is specially set up as a binary posting group.
'misc.transport.rail.australia-nz' falls under the same common-sense
guidelines even though it's not an 'aus.*' group.
The newsgroups 'alt.binaries.pictures.rail' should be used for binary image
postings related to rail tranport. That's what it was created for. Otherwise
readers of 'aus.rail' and 'm.t.r.australia-nz' waste money and time online
trying to get through binary image postings which don't mean much to most
people, especially people who don't have access to anything other than
text-based newsreading software.
If anyone wants to post binaries in this group, please ask everyone else
first, and if people object too much, try to put your images on an FTP site
so those who want them can download them without choking newsgroups with
non-text postings.
