I'm somewhat confused as to the logic of this arguement. All the media reports state that prior to the establishment of NR the total loss on interstate freight was $320m pa. For the last four years NR has been operating interstate freight services in South Australia instead of AN. Now we are told that AN's debt at sale is $2b. That means AN lost $500m pa since losing their portion of the interstate freight business. How could their portion of the interstate freight business have been profitable to the value of $500m pa when the loss nationally was $320m?

I suspect that AN may have been doing better than some of the other state rail authorities but they must have still be losing money!

Regards,

Tom
