Its even worse than you possibly could beleive.
Even when 2 states buy identical hardware from the same company as was done
with the 2 CTC installations Ararat to Wolseley and Wolseley to Keswick, the
rules for how the systems are used is totally differant , so that a driver has
to be qualified in both sets of rules.
The previous post says it all, there is no way any 2 state Railway Systems are
going to cooperate with each other to achieve a result that is best for the
country over all,but whats new , they have been doing this since federation
when we had the insane guage decisions, nothings changed.

The only hope is
1/ All the state Rail Systems eventually will go broke when all the freight is
carried by B-Double trucks and we wont need railways then.
2/ The States will flog off their Railways to private enterprise, who will
quickly discover that all these State specific idiotic rules are costing them
heaps.

Dont hold your breath waiting though, weve already been waiting 100 years.

cheers
