Hey SRV: Is it 639 or 658?

I'm confused.

A D3 ran round this State for many years purporting to be D3 639.
Then it got overhauled and went from a lovely Canadian Red to black.
We were told that 639 was the wrong number and a grave injustice of
many years ago was to be corrected. Subsequently, on the Easter
Monday Bendigo trip, it went to Bendigo as 639 and with great ceremony
returned renumbered as 658.

It was advertised as 658 for the parallel run (with Y112 which didn't
eventuate), then the "S" circular for the Bacchus Marsh Autism charter
listed it as 639.

The "S" circular for the Deniliquin/Moulamein weekender listed the
loco as 658.

Now SRV's latest brochure re their steam special to Korumburra on
2.07.97 advertises the transfer of 639 to Korumburra for a couple of
months. On the back cover of that same brochure, a forthcoming tour
is listed for 26 Oct 97 of a second attempt at parallel running
between D3 658 and Y112.

So.....which is it? 639 or 658?

And why can't SRV make up its mind as to which loco it's going to be:
or are they planning to paint it back to Canadian Red (my 4yo votes a
resounding "yes" on that question!<g!>)? or does it depend on who
writes the individual tour brochure as to which number it's going to
be? Is it going to be re-numbered to 639 while at Korumburra?

Regards
